VCLZip 4.00 Build 1 is now available. This version adds AES Encryption. The evaluation version as well as an updated Zip Utility Example can be found at the website: www.vclzip.comYou can register VCLZip at this location: www.shareit.com/product.html?productid=300224269VCLZip Lite has now been discontinued. At this time, we are switching to a subscription based registration. Here is how it will work: - First years subscription is $99.95
- Annual renewals are $79.95
- Currently registered VCLZip users will receive a discount on your first registration, making the price the same as a renewal. Contact at VCLZip-Support@4warding.com to get a coupon code to enter when you register.
- If you registered VCLZip Pro within the last year, you will receive this version free, and your support winow will last until one year from when you registered. If this is the case, contact us at VCLZip-Support@4warding.com to receive your download information.
- The subscription gets you ALL upgrades as well as priority email support for one year. Support does not end, and the software does not stop working after the year. You get all of the source code when you register.
We would like to hear from you with any and all feedback regarding the installation, the component, the evaluation version, the example projects, etc. We will be actively adding new features and of course making bug fixes. We are also working on improving the Help file and the website to make them more user friendly and helpful. Thanks, Kevin

Kevin,
Being this is now subscription based, are we guaranteed updates during our subscription (ie Buy an upgrade to 4.0 now and the version is still 4.0 a year and a half from now, the subscription would be extended until at least some activity had taken place)?

I guess I don't really know anyone else that does that, and it should not happen, but in the case that it does I am sure that we would be more than happy to do so.

Subscription service? -- Does this mean that the vcl expires after a year and it no longer works unless renewed? Or does it mean that you have to renew to get updates and continued support?

No, there is nothing in the code (and you get all the code) that will stop anything from working. Your applications and whatever version of VCLZip you happen to have at the time will always work.
What you get for the subscription is any updates that go out during that year's time, and priority on email support. There is always support in this forum too. But we are more responsive to someone who is currently registered.
You will notice that most software that does not use subscription registrations tends to not get updated very often. Most software that does, charges some sort of subscription. Of the other similar components out there, I believe that most charge a fair amount more (especially for source code) and some even charge per version of Delphi/BCB.
We weighed the possibility of not going the subscription route, but realized that there was no way to justify (economically) continued development and support without it.

How will you be handling site licensing?

Hi Derek,
That will be handled the same as always, if you order 7 licenses, you are considered to have a site license.

Kevin,
Thanks for the reply!
When I was speaking of extending the subscription, I didn't mean in a freeloader way - I just would hate to pay $79 now, $79 next year and still be working with version 4.00 with no maintenance releases during the entire period...
Hope that makes sense!

Yes, I definitely understand your concern. While quite stable, VCLZip bacame somewhat stagnant under the regular registration model as does most software. The whole reason behind the switch is to justify continued development and improvements.
